Warning

It is standard procedure for our school nurse to send home a letter when it’s discovered that a student in your child’s classroom has any form of contagious infection. The letters describe symptoms to be aware of and information on what treatment is necessary should your student become infected.

Caleb came home with such a letter last week. It was written to alert parents that a case of Strep throat had been identified in his class. And yes, Caleb was the infected student. I felt a little guilty and a bit germy, but hey, what can you do? Kids just get sick now and then.

Then yesterday, less than two weeks after the first letter, another one arrived home in his backpack. This time, the subject was Conjunctivitis (Pink-eye).

Just guess who the contaminated kid was this time…

I’m thinking next week we should be expecting a letter with the following:

This is to notify you that a Caleb has been identified in your student’s room at school. We want to alert you to observe your student closely since medical treatment should be sought immediately if symptoms of contact with Caleb occur. Any form of contact with this child may result in bacterial infection, all of which will require an antibiotic prescription.

(His diseases may be easy to catch, but he won’t be. He ran a 5K today in 24:02!)

Oh Caleb! Pink eye is just no fun. Thing is...with the streph and the pink eye, you had to get them from someone else. So, some other letters should have gone home, too.

Way to go on your 5K! You are such a great runner. Pretty darn fast...you'll be passing your mom pretty soon.

Way to run Caleb. We are sorry you got pink eye. We agree with Grandma that it had to have come from some one else! We love you! Keep working hard and running fast!

Poor guy! I hope all your symptoms clear up soon. I'm super impressed by your 5k time! Aunt Erin is MUCH, MUCH slower.

Seriously this is a funny post. At least it wasn't lice, which is the only letter I ever get from school. We've been lucky every time. Hope it gets better soon and the rest of you guys stay goop free. Good job on the running Caleb. You are impressive!

As if Caleb needs one more prescription! Poor guy but man, what a little speedster Caleb! I'm hoping to do my next 5k in 33 minutes! I took Aaron out this morning for a 2.5 mile jog and he was dying. I'm going to try to get the boys to do the 1 mile fun run. I'm for sure going to tell them about their fast buddy Caleb! And Tara...what's your running shoe of choice??? I've been trying to get advice from friends who run.

We've actually never had to deal with pink eye in our household. Knock on wood! I get those letters all the time and honestly glance and throw them away. I think that is part of being in school. People get sick.

Way to go on the 5k that is super speedy!
