This was the year it happened: Alyssa informed me that I didn't need to walk her to school on the first day and I didn't need to pick her up either. So I let my fourth grader go on without me.
The weather wasn't ideal but the rain didn't dampen their first-day-of-school excitement.
Natalie could hardly wait for kindergarten. She asked me every hour how much longer she would have to wait.
She's such a poser. I'm not sure about this next one.
I found out later that she calls this ensemble her "rock star outfit." I suppose that explains this next pose.
Can you believe it? They showed up in the exact same outfit. You're probably thinking we planned it, but Camille and I had no idea that the other had purchased this darling outfit. Emma wasn't even with her mom when she bought it.
It was perfect--head off to school on this milestone day with a life-long best friend, dressed just alike.

I was doing fine until they sat down on their seat together and waved to us through the bus window, grinning from ear to ear. Then I cried. Just a little. For five years she's been my daytime buddy. Just us two. I'm going to miss her.
Camille and I jumped in the car and drove to the school so we could watch them get off the bus. We got there just in time to watch them walk inside.
Walking home after a good day...
Poor Hunter is the only boy in this walking crew. Together they cover every grade from kindergarten to fifth.
After we got home, I realized I'd never taken a picture of Caleb. I told him I wanted to get a photo so that we'd remember what he looked like at the beginning of seventh grade. (Seventh grade! Doesn't that sound old?)
He stopped at the door step and said, "Wait a minute." Then he carefully inserted his hand in his pocket for this deliberate pose. So funny. So Caleb.

I cried too! Probably cause I know that Anna's first day of kindergarten is coming all too soon. They are all so cute and grown up.
Also, is there a story as to why Alyssa has on a different outfit at the end of the day???
I love that Natalie and her best friend showed up in the same outfit! How fun! and her poses are just great! That girl has spunk!
Erin--Natalie just had a short conference on the first day so I waited to take her pictures until her first official school day which was Alyssa's second day. That's why she was wearing a different outfit, it was a different day. :)
They are all so cute! I love the poses- they show how fun their personalities are! I'm ready for them to stop growing so fast too! Hope they all have a great year!
Okay Granny is quite misty-eyed as well. Lys can't be big enough to not need her mom on the first day of school. Natty looks so cute and so ready for Kindergarten. (At least you get to start off with only 1/2 days.) And Caleb, what a man!
Adorable children! I've loved looking at all my Mommy friends' first day of school posts!
Can't believe your baby started Kindergarten!! I'm sure I'll cry when Carter goes off to school too :)
Love those poses. So cute. I hope they all have a great school year!
Hope you're okay with the half-day to yourself!
I love your kids. Natalie looked adorable and I love that she has a good friend to go to school with! It must be nice to have such a great group of neighborhood kids!
Great pictures Tara. I need to get a couple of those from you.
Really cute pictures of really cute kids!
They are all so, so, so cute. Love that Natalie and her best friend had the same outfit. I would have loved that.
Wow! Such grown-up and adorable kids! I am so glad I am closer now and can enjoy your milestones better.
Cute pictures, the ones of Natalie posing are precious. I just read on Camille's blog about the matching outfits; I had noticed they were wearing the same thing the first day, but figured they had planned it. What are chances?
